Izdihar’s Story: A One-Year-Old Survivor of Gaza’s War — MASTUL Foundation Stands Beside Her

Gaza — In the final days of 2025, tragedy struck Izdihar’s family. Israeli forces bombed their home, destroying it in seconds. Her mother, siblings, and many relatives were killed instantly. Only her father and baby Izdihar survived.

Though alive, Izdihar’s small body bore unimaginable pain — her leg was torn apart, and she became critically injured. Her father alone took care of her for an entire year, raising her despite grief and hardship. But just one day before Izdihar’s first birthday, and exactly one year after her mother’s death, her father too was martyred in another bombing (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un).
Now orphaned, Izdihar’s only shelter is with her aunt. She is raising Izdihar along with her own two children, all of them displaced to a refugee camp in Egypt after losing their home.
Living with Wounds That Never Heal
Izdihar cannot walk properly; she wears an artificial leg that constantly needs monitoring and causes her pain. Treatment, medicine, and daily expenses have become a crushing burden for her aunt, who struggles to provide for the family of five.
The war has left deeper scars too. Izdihar is terrified of loud noises and frightened by strangers. She cannot speak clearly and has hearing problems. Most of the time, she just stares blankly, still traumatized by everything she has endured.
Meanwhile, surviving relatives in Gaza remain in desperate conditions — homeless, hungry, and moving from one tent to another in search of food, water, and safety.
A Call for Peace and Humanity
Stories like Izdihar’s remind us of the urgent need for peace and justice. No child should lose their parents, their home, and their childhood to war. We dream of a free Palestine, where children can grow up safe, without bombs or fear. Insha’Allah, that day will come.
