2022 Qurbani Meat Distribution Program during Eid-Ul-Adha in Flood-Affected Areas of Sylhet
sponsored by Retired Customs Officers Welfare Association- RCOWA
This year’s Eid-Ul-Adha was an exception in Sylhet. May 11, 2022. According to the latest records, Flash floods caused by prolonged heavy rains in the Sylhet region evacuated thousands of families and affected millions of people. 41 adults and children were killed, 1 million homes were completely destroyed and 5 million were severely affected by the floods. Many people are doing urgent work but still can’t get started. Many families lost their homes, belongings, and livelihoods. So it was a dream that they would celebrate Eid by performing Qurbani and eating meat.
The MASTUL Foundation had been with the victims since the beginning at Sylhet. MASTUL constantly strives to create a better future for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups. Keeping these helpless people in their mind, MASTUL had taken a remarkable initiative to carry out Qurbani activities in flood-affected areas during Eid-ul-Adha. Qurbani meat had been distributed to the homeless in flood-affected areas. With funding help from the Retired Customs Officers Welfare Association – RCOWA, MASTUL had started buying cows from remote areas of Sylhet. On the eve of Eid, July 10, 2022, MASTUL managed to distribute Qurbani meat to 10,000-15,000 people. In addition, the MASTUL group, with the help of the Bangladesh Army, distributed cooked meat for Eid to helpless and vulnerable people.

• What kind of Relief had been provided by the program:
The MASTUL group provided 2 types of Qurbani Meats- cooked meat and raw meat
• What kind of activities have been performed during the program:
The program was led by Kazi Rayhan Nafiz, Operation Unit Head on behalf of the MASTUL Foundation. The MASTUL Team was continuously dispensing Qurbani Meat on Eid day in opposition to insane water and unfavorable environmental surroundings to the door to door of waterlogged people. The MASTUL team had started to distribute Qurbani Meat by providing raw meats, but the water level in some flood areas was higher, making it impossible for a few people to cook alone. The MASTUL team also went to those remote areas of Sylhet. They instantly cooked Qurbani Meat on a rescue boat and distributed it to the people affected by the flood.
• Story of Program Beneficiaries:
“বাবা তোমরা আইছন। গোশতর আশা তো ছেইড়া দিছিলাম“।
On the eve of Eid when everyone was spending the day with family and friends, this old man had been stuck alone. He couldn’t find anyone to talk to in four days. Looking at the MASTUL team, he had new hopes for Qurbani Meat.
