Overview

MASTUL constantly attempts to create a better future for underprivileged and vulnerable groups. MASTUL Foundation has been by the manner of the side of flood victims since the beginning of the flood at Sylhet. This year’s Eid-Ul-Adha was an exception in Sylhet. A week of continuous rain has caused catastrophic flooding in the northern region of Sylhet. According to the latest figures, 41 adults and children died, 1 million houses were destroyed, and 5 million people were seriously affected by the floods. Many people are doing urgent work but still can’t get started. Many families lost their homes, belongings, and livelihoods. So it was a dream that they would celebrate Eid by performing Qurbani and eating meat.

Retaining these helpless people in thought, MASTUL had taken a remarkable initiative to carry out Qurbani activities within the flood-hit regions on this Eid-ul-Adha. The Qurbani Meats had distributed among the helpless people in the flood-hit areas. With the help of Reliance Insurance Ltd., MASTUL had begun buying cows from far-flung regions of the Sylhet with donors’ and sponsors’ help. on the eve of Holy Eid’s Day, July 10, 2022, MASTUL managed to distribute Qurbani’s meat to 10,000-15,000 people. There are also flood-affected areas in Sylhet, where the flood waters are so high that people cannot even have the availability of cooking. The MASTUL team went there with the help of the Bangladesh Army and handed out the cooked meat for Eid to those helpless and vulnerable people.

Program Summary

• Location of the Programs:

The project was run in the most vulnerable areas of the Sylhet region like Jokiganj, Sunamganj, Gowainghat, Jaintapur, kanaighat Upazila, and so on.

• Beneficiaries:

Like in previous years, MASTUL Foundation is launching a campaign to support 10,000-15,000/- vulnerable and poor people with meat during Qurbani 2022 all over the Sylhet region. The meat was distributed healthily and hygienically. The key objectives of this initiative were to share the blessings of Qurbani with the needy and Flood-affected communities of Jokiganj, Sunamganj, Gowainghat, Jaintapur, and kanaighat Upazila.

• What kind of activities have been performed during the program:

The program was led by Kazi Rayhan Nafiz, Operation Unit Head on behalf of the MASTUL Foundation. The MASTUL Team was continuously dispensing Qurbani Meat on Eid day in opposition to insane water and unfavorable environmental surroundings to the door to door of waterlogged people. The MASTUL team provides 2 types of Qurbani Meat – cooked meat and raw meat. The MASTUL team had started to distribute Qurbani Meat by providing raw meats, but the water level in some flood areas was higher, making it impossible for a few people to cook alone. The MASTUL team also went to those remote areas of Sylhet. They instantly cooked Qurbani Meat on a rescue boat and distributed it to the people affected by the flood.

• Story of Program Beneficiaries:

“ঈদের দিন পোলা কইডা খুব জালাইতেছিল একটু গোশত দিয়া ভাত খাওনের লাইগে। আমি ভাবলাম বন্যায় তো সব ডুইবা গেছে এইবার তো আমাগো অঞ্চলে কেউ কোরবানী করবার অবস্থায় নাই। কোরবানীর গোশত এইবার আর কই পাই অগোলেইগা।”

Saleha Begum assumed that she would not be able to cook some meat and feed her sons this Eid. But MASTUL could not let it be. With the help of Reliance Insurance Ltd., MASTUL had been able to remove the worries of thousands of such mothers. I put the sacrificial meat in their hands.
