Emergency Flood Damage Rehabilitation Program in Sylhet- 2022

OVERVIEW

Flash floods caused by prolonged heavy rains in the Sylhet region evacuated thousands of families and affected millions of people. Many families had lost their homes, belongings, and livelihoods. A week of rain had caused devastating flooding in the northern part of Sylhet Division. May 11, 2022. According to the latest records, 41 adults and children were killed, 1 million homes were completely destroyed and 5 million were severely affected by the floods. MASTUL Foundation had been by the manner of the side of flood victims since the beginning of the flood at Sylhet. MASTUL constantly tries to create a better future for underprivileged children have additionally taken initiative in flood rehabilitation to bring back the flood-affected humans. Currently, MASTUL Foundation has taken the initiative to rebuild 1,000 homes destroyed by floods in the Sylhet region through their post-disaster management project named “Emergency Flood Damage Rehabilitation and Livelihoods for Flood Victims in Sylhet Region”. On Wednesday 27th July 2022, MASTUL Foundation’s post-disaster management project of Emergency Flood Damage Rehabilitation has officially begun at the South Sunamganj Upazila office by supporting with materials to build houses for half a hundred families affected by the floods.

Alhamdulillah, with their help MASTUL Team has successfully done these programs. Program Summary

• Location of the Programs:

The project was run in the most vulnerable areas of the Sylhet region like Jokiganj, Sunamganj, Gowainghat, Jaintapur, kanaighat Upazila, and so on.

• Beneficiaries:

1 thousand people of Flood-affected communities from Jokiganj, Sunamganj, Gowainghat, Jaintapur, and kanaighat Upazila.

• What kind of Relief had been provided by the program:

2 bun of tins and 20 bamboos, construction materials, and incidental expenses are provided for rehabilitation

• What kind of activities have been performed during the program:

The MASTUL Team participated in the entire campaign with a strategic plan and disciplined way. The main activities was started in Sunamganj District.

• Story of Program Beneficiaries:

“দুনিয়াতে বাইচ্চা থাইক্যা যেন মইরা গেছি বাবা! পেট ভরে কোনদিন খাওন পাইনি যা জুটত খাইছি, তাও তো থাকনের একটা ঘর ছিল। আইজ সেডাও বানে কাইড়্যা নিয়েছে।”

One child is disabled, the other does not even look after this old mother. There was a house where this disabled boy lived. What is the irony of fate today that house has also been destroyed by flood water! The cry of the helpless mother does not stop somehow. To reduce the cost of the sad mother, we have assured her to return her last refuge.
