Overview

Flash floods caused by prolonged heavy rains in the Sylhet region evacuated thousands of families and affected millions of people. Many families have lost their homes, belongings, and livelihoods. A week of rain has caused devastating flooding in the northern part of Sylhet Division. May 11, 2022. According to the latest records, 41 adults and children were killed, 1 million homes were completely destroyed and 5 million were severely affected by the floods. MASTUL Foundation has been by the manner of the side of flood victims since the beginning of the flood at Sylhet. MASTUL has tried its best to position dry food and cooked food for the flood sufferers. The MASTUL Team was continuously dispensing that food as flood relief in opposition to insane water and unfavorable environmental surroundings to the door to door of waterlogged people.

Program Summary

• Location of the Program:

The project was run in the most vulnerable areas of the Sylhet region like Jokiganj, Sunamganj, Gowainghat, Jaintapur, kanaighat Upazila, and so on.

• Beneficiaries:

3 thousand people of Flood-affected communities from Jokiganj, Sunamganj, Gowainghat, Jaintapur, and kanaighat Upazila.

• What kind of Relief had been provided by the program:

The MASTUL group provided- food relief which was dry food including rice, lentils, purified water, soybean oil, flour, salt, dry rice, and mustard oil.

• What kind of activities have been performed during the program:

The program was led by Kazi Rayhan Nafiz, Operation Unit Head on behalf of the Mastul Foundation. The MASTUL team has started to distribute relief by providing dry food such as rice, lentils, purified water, soybean oil, flour, salt, dry rice, and mustard oil. But day by day, the water level in the flood area is getting higher and higher, making it impossible for a few people to cook alone. The MASTUL team also went to those remote areas of Sylhet. They instantly cooked Kithudi on a rescue boat and distributed it to the people affected by the flood.

” আমরা দিনমজুর মানুষ,এমনি খাইতে পারিনা। এহন তো আরও পামু না।… কি করুম জানি না। আল্লায় এমন কষ্ট যেন কাউরে না দেয়….”

There were more uncertainties we faced in those flood-affected areas. Flood victims were confused because they are sovereigns. We did our best, but it’s not enough. We need more help and support to help them get back to a healthy normal life….
