Flash floods caused by prolonged heavy rains in the Sylhet region evacuated thousands of families and affected millions of people. Many districts of Kanaighat, Gowainghat, Companyganj, Jaintapur, Zakiganj, Sylhet Sadar, Fenchuganj, and Sylhet as well as several districts in Sunamganj and Netrokona districts were flooded. Many families have lost their homes, belongings, and livelihoods. A week of rain has caused devastating flooding in the northern part of Sylhet Division. Heavy rain from Wednesday 11 May 2022 exacerbates the flood scenario. More than 300 villages and roads in Companiganj in Sylhet, Gowainghat, and Upazilas in Jaintapur were flooded. 42 emergency shelters for flood victims have been opened in Gowainhat. Meanwhile, water from the Surma River has seeped into buildings and businesses in the vicinity. All road connections to Gowainghat Upazila have been interrupted. About 90% of Upazila residents were trapped. 41 adults and children were killed; 1 million homes were completely destroyed and 5 million were severely affected by the floods. MASTUL Foundation has been by the manner of the side of flood victims since the beginning of the flood at Sylhet. MASTUL has many years of experience, especially in flood and post-flood emergencies and disaster management. Based on years of experience, especially in relief goods distribution, MASTUL has dispatched an emergency response team to initiate emergency food distribution in the affected area of Sylhet, Bangladesh. After several days of work, MASTUL, in consultation with local authorities, selected specific areas to work more intensively with flood victims.

The MASTUL Foundation and Employees of LIDL Bangladesh Ltd. provided flood relief to thousands of inclined people. MASTUL Volunteers together with some of the LIDL employees constantly distributed the flood relief till 10 pm in opposition to insane water and unfavorable environmental surroundings to the door-to-door of waterlogged people. The MASTUL and employee group of LIDL Bangladesh Ltd offered 2 types of food relief – cooked food and dry food. The collaborated team had started to distribute relief by providing dry food such as rice, lentils, soybean oil, flour, salt, dry rice, and mustard oil with purified water. But the water level in some of the flood areas was getting higher and higher and making it impossible for a few people to cook alone. The MASTUL and LIDL Employee teams also went to those remote areas of Sylhet. They instantly cooked Kichudi on a rescue boat and distributed it to the people affected by the flood

This program could not be possible without the support of our honorable donor the employees of LIDL Bangladesh Ltd. MASTUL is showing their deep Gramercy to them, especially the employee group who had joined us in the field and helped to distribute food relief to helpless people who are suffering themselves in flood-affected areas. Heartiest thanks to the Employee Association of LIDL Bangladesh Ltd. for coming beside the MASTUL Foundation. beneath this collaboration, both the organizations effectively finished relief distribution in numerous areas of ongoing floods in the Sylhet flood-affected region.
